In this issue of BlueLinks eNews:

April 2009

Dear Business Partner:

This special edition of BlueLinks eNews provides you with late-breaking news and updates that may affect your business.

We begin this edition by alerting you to the limited number of spring broker training sessions still available. These sessions are a great way to learn about our industry and products and space is limited, so please RSVP as soon as possible. Next, we provide you with an update on swine flu and outline what Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is doing to prepare for a potential pandemic and how we are keeping our members informed. Finally, we introduce a new tool for sending and receiving sensitive information via email called InfoSecure. InfoSecure renders emails that contain personally identifiable information, personal health information, or business/account data unreadable until they are de-scrambled or "decrypted" by the recipient.

If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to share them with your account executive.

Sincerely,

Larry Croes
Vice President

Swine Flu: Information for Our Members

As you may have heard on the news, there have been some cases of swine flu in Massachusetts caused by a flu virus that originated in Mexico. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is monitoring the situation closely for its potential impact on our business and is providing up-to-date information to our members.

On the legislative front, Massachusetts' Pandemic Flu and Disaster Preparedness Bill (S.2028) has now passed the Senate and moved on to the House. The bill would update public health laws to better coordinate the state's response in the event of a large-scale pandemic illness or natural disaster. If the bill were to become law, Massachusetts would join at least 35 other states that already have similar pandemic laws.
