March 2010 Dear Business Partner: Recently, the Health Connector, in conjunction with the Small Business Service Bureau, announced the availability of a new group health insurance program called Business Express. A letter was recently sent to small business employers inviting them to "check out" the Business Express program. Currently, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is not participating in this program. There are some unique operational and other challenges to any future participation by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts in the Health Connector's new Business Express program for small employers. These issues may take several weeks to analyze and address, but Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and the Health Connector are working together to seek a mutually satisfactory resolution. Until these issues are successfully resolved, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts plans will not be available through Business Express. In addition, as part of its marketing efforts for Business Express, the Health Connector letter states that, in some cases, small businesses with five or fewer employees could save more than $300 per employee per year on administrative costs. Since Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts does not use intermediaries, the administrative savings would not apply. If you have any questions, please call your account executive. Larry Croes
