Important Change to Prescription Drug Coverage

Currently, members can fill a 90-day supply of certain prescription medications at a retail pharmacy, but only pay the cost for a 30-day supply. Beginning August 1, 2014, when members fill a 90-day prescription at a retail pharmacy, they must pay three times the cost of a 30-day supply. For example, if a member pays a $25 copayment today, they will pay a $75 copayment starting August 1, 2014.

The medications are:

  • Estring
  • Medroxyprogesterone*
  • Depo-Provera*
  • Femring

Affected employees will be notified by mail of this change. * These drugs are covered in full as part of the women's preventive health services initiative under the Affordable Care Act. Most members therefore have no cost share for these drugs.

We are also recommending that they talk to their doctor if they have questions about treatment options such as less expensive medication. They can also see if they're eligible for cost savings though our mail service pharmacy, Express Scripts PharmacySM.
