Excellus Cyber-Attack

We recently learned that Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield, based in Rochester, NY, was the target of a sophisticated cyber-attack. This attack reportedly affected roughly 7 million of Excellus’s members, 3.5 million of Excellus’s affiliate Lifetime Healthcare Companies’ members, and 1 million Blue Card members.

The most recent report from Excellus informs us that, to date, their investigation has not revealed any evidence that the affected member’s data was removed from their system or used inappropriately.

Impact on Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Members
Currently we are working closely with Excellus to determine how many of our members were affected by this cyber-attack. We expect to have more specific information throughout the next couple of weeks.

Right now, we are working aggressively to find out more information to support our members as Excellus conducts its investigation into the cyber-attack.
