Minimum Creditable Coverage Guidelines

The Massachusetts Health Connector Board has approved minimum creditable coverage (MCC) standards that employer group and individual health plans must meet so that residents can satisfy the mandate that they have health insurance. Medical benefits purchased through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts may not, on their own, satisfy MCC requirements because certain benefits may have been excluded from the subscriber's health plans for various products.
The MCC guidelines also state that an individual's total health coverage through an employer may be considered for the purpose of determining MCC compliance. Consulting with an advisor or legal counsel is recommended to confirm the health plan is MCC-compliant when providing coverage for the required benefits through another carrier.
