Here are a few tips to maximize your benefits and minimize your out-of-pocket expenses:

• Depending on your Medicare coverageMade up of two parts: Hospital Insurance (Part A) and Medical Insurance (Part B). (See Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance); Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance).) , always carry your plan ID cards and present them whenever you visit a doctor, hospital, or other health care provider.
  
  
• If applicable, remember to carry your Medicare Part D prescription drug plan ID card and present it at the pharmacy or wherever you obtain prescription drugs.
  
  
• If you have a Medicare Advantage planA health plan, such as a Medicare managed care plan (HMO or PPO) or Private Fee-for-Service plan offered by a private company with a Medicare contract. An alternative to the Original Medicare Plan. that uses a network of health care providers such as doctors and/or hospitals, it is important to follow your plan's rules when seeing providers outside the network. Depending on your plan, failure to do so may result in your having to pay the full cost of services out-of-pocket.
  
  
• If you are uncertain whether Medicare or your health plan covers a service, call Medicare or your health plan first before receiving services.
  
  
• Keep abreast of changes by reading the information Medicare and your private insurer send you.
