To achieve our vision and keep our promise to always put our members first, we are:

• Designing new benefit plans that help guide our members toward receiving high-quality health care at lower cost hospitals and facilities.
• Developing new payment approaches to health care that create greater value for our members. By rewarding physicians and hospitals for quality and not just for the quantity of care—we are improving patient care and slowing the increase in health care costs.

• Creating new care and disease management programs that work closely with caregivers to help our members better manage chronic disease or serious illness.

We have an obligation to our members to use the premiums entrusted to us wisely. That's why we continually work to find new ways to be as efficient as possible. Approximately 90 percent of premiums paid to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts are used to pay for the health care services our members receive.
