Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts recognizes the value of maintaining a supplier base that reflects the diverse communities we serve. The role we play in building a diverse business community is important to us because it helps us make quality health care more affordable for our customers and members.

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Supplier Diversity Program contributes to the competitiveness of our procurement process and the economic health of our communities. The program works with certified minority and women-owned businesses to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions to drive sustainability and capacity building.

To continue our success in helping diverse businesses grow to scale, our Supplier Diversity Program emphasizes the following practices:

• Inclusion — Developing policies that integrate supplier diversity into all stages of the procurement process (e.g., at least one diverse business must participate in competitive bids valued at $100K or more).
  
  
• Strategic Sourcing — Identifying businesses that qualify as minority or women-owned; and verifying that those businesses have the capacity to satisfy our business needs.
  
  
• Business Development — Providing minority and women-owned businesses access to mentors and consultants who are skilled at positioning small companies to effectively compete for business with large corporations.
  
  
• Tier 2 — Encouraging our consultants, contractors, and suppliers to make good faith efforts to subcontract with certified minority and women-owned businesses.
