The Blue Beacon honors an associate or team of associates who actively participate and support diversity and inclusion in a department, a business area, or the community. This award is part of the Diversity and Inclusion Awards and Recognition program.
Tuoyo has worked internally and externally to develop diverse talent supporting the organization's D&I goals related to talent development. He developed the Healthbox business initiative, which supports our goal to drive an inclusive culture by engaging more than 10 percent of associates at all levels to participate in the program. He is an inaugural leader and partner in the Blue Express development program, working with Peter Sally. Tuoyo has also lent his leadership skills to the community, mentoring PIC and college students on building business and entrepreneurship skills.
Karen has engaged in several activities that have made a positive impact on the talent, market, and community D&I goals in her business area. Karen has taken proactive steps to create an environment where people of diverse backgrounds and experiences are welcomed and appreciated. While recruiting for the new Chronic Condition Management area, Karen sourced associates from a variety of backgrounds to bring different perspectives to the team in order to most effectively deliver services to our diverse member base. Additionally, Karen ensured the nurses have a high level of health literacy about diverse populations through extensive training. She further reinforces inclusion in her area (not to mention healthy living) with her "Kilometers with Karen" program, where she regularly talks with associates on two-mile walks.
