BOSTON October 8, 2008 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) today announced the appointment of Bill Fandrich as Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice President. Bringing a wealth of experience in technology leadership for both health care and insurance organizations, Fandrich will now bring his expertise to BCBSMA as he takes on leadership of the organization's Information Technology division.
Fandrich will drive the advancement of a new IT Operating Model, centered on building a strong strategic partnership with IT and the BCBSMA business. In his new role, Fandrich will work with the organization to align IT and business functions with strategies and goals to realize better business value through technology delivery.

Fandrich joins BCSMA from Cigna where he launched Cigna's market-facing informatics strategy as their first Chief Informatics Officer. During his five years at Cigna, he also held senior executive positions in product development and information technology operations.
Prior to his time at Cigna, Fandrich served as Chief Application Officer and Senior Vice President at Liberty Mutual. He has also held positions at Deloitte and EDS where he focused on health insurance technology solutions.
In addition to his leadership roles in large organizations, Fandrich brings an entrepreneurial mind-set as well. Fandrich started an enterprise security software company, Cogentric, Inc., in 2000 that was later sold. He currently serves on several executive boards, including the National eHealth Initiative board, based in Washington, DC.
Fandrich earned an M.B.A from Case Western University's Weatherhead School of Management and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ohio Wesleyan University.
