Board of Directors elects Bill Van Faasen
BOSTON September 22, 2010 The Board of Directors of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) announced today it has elected Bill Van Faasen as the company's Chairman of the Board. Van Faasen succeeds Paul Guzzi who has served as Chairman since March.
BCBSMA President and CEO Andrew Dreyfus said, "Bill is a leader in our company, in health care, and in the broader business and civic community. He's well-respected by both Board members and BCBSMA leadership. I look forward to working with Bill and the rest of the Board to achieve our highest priority of making quality health care affordable for our customers, members and the community."
Van Faasen said, "I am honored that the Board and Andrew have asked me to play this role during such a critical time in health care. As with our work to expand coverage a few years ago, addressing health care affordability will require all stakeholders to work together in a spirit of collaboration toward a broad community solution. BCBSMA is committed to continuing its leadership role in this process."
On behalf of the entire BCBSMA Board, Van Faasen and Dreyfus both expressed the company's gratitude to Paul Guzzi for his service and leadership as Chairman of the Board. Guzzi added, "I'm proud to have been able to play a role in helping to lead the company through this six month interim period while we searched for a permanent CEO. Along with the rest of the Board, I'm excited by Andrew's selection last month and look forward to continuing to work closely with him in the future." Guzzi will remain on the Board as a Vice Chair.
