Google Health Record Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of a health record?
Doctors will often ask you details about previous medical conditions or treatments in order to offer you the best possible care. Your health record can help you keep a more complete, up-to-date record of dates of care, specific treatments, tests, and medications. If you choose, you can also print and share your health record with providers so they have a more complete picture of your medical conditions and previous care. With better information, you and your health care provider can make better, more informed decisions.

What kinds of information will be imported into my health record?
With certain exceptions, most of your health information from the last two years filed with your Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts health plan will be imported into your health record.

This includes procedures (office visits, surgeries, and tests) and medications from your doctor, hospital, pharmacy, or other health care providers. In cases when a provider has not diagnosed your condition at the time of a visit, the claim submitted to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts may include a condition being tested for. In order to provide you with a complete and accurate health record, the condition information we receive on claims will be sent to Google Health but will not be automatically populated into your account. Instead, the condition will be listed in the notice section in your Google Health account and can be added manually by you to the condition section of your Google Health profile.

Can I add data to my health record?
You may add any information you choose into your health record to complete your health history. This may include health information prior to the last two years, as well as sensitive diagnoses, family history, or over-the-counter medications that are not imported from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.

What if there are errors in the health information that is imported into my health record?
Because the clinical information is imported and displayed as it is filed by your health care provider, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts cannot change or allow editing of professionally sourced information such as claims. However, although you cannot edit imported information, you can remove an item within your health record that you believe is inaccurate by clicking the delete button corresponding to that item. You also have the ability to edit or delete any self-reported information.

My doctor has all my health information already—why do I need to maintain my own health record?
A complete health record helps you stay in charge of your own health and wellness. You can provide your health information to any provider or specialist that you may see in the future, giving them a better understanding of your health history to help them provide you with better care.

I requested that my health history be sent to my health record a few weeks ago, but I still do not see my information online. Why?
The initial upload of information is immediate. After the initial upload of your health history, future information will be processed on a weekly basis. It may take longer to send your health information from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts to your health record, depending on when a claim is received from another organization (doctor's office, hospital, clinic, etc.)

How do I opt-in to have my health history imported into my health record?
To opt-in, follow the instructions on the welcome page. The first step is to log in using your BLue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts username and password.

Can I choose to stop my health history from being imported into my health record?
You can stop health information from being sent to Google Health at any time. If you would like to unlink, close this window to return to the Welcome page, and then follow the Unlinking from Google Health instructions listed on that page.

Please note that any health information that was previously imported will remain on your health record. You may delete the items individually once logged into your Google Health account.

Can I import health information into a health record for other family members?
You are not able to import health history for other family members on your contract. Each member age 18 and over may choose to have their health history imported on an individual basis into his/her own health record.

Can I export the information from my health record?
You have the ability to print your health record. More functionality may be added in the future to allow you to save your record as a file on your computer or fax your health record.

Can I import information from an existing health record?
You need to manually add items from an existing health record to Google Health. However, if you already have a health record through WebMD, that same health information will be imported to Google Health with the exception of information that you entered manually.

What if I change my Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts username?
If you change your Blue Cross Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts username, your medical and pharmacy information will stop being sent to your Google Health profile. To resume data transfer, you'll have to relink your Blue Cross Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts account to your Google Health profile. If the linking process fails after changing your Blue Cross Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts username, call Member Service at the number listed below.

What if my data was in the middle of transferring but rather than seeing a completion page, I saw a blank page?
