Personalized support for members coping with serious illness
Dealing with a serious, ongoing illness can be exhausting and stressful, not only for the member who is ill, but also for his or her family and coworkers as well. Now there's a new program from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts that gives members personalized support as they cope with challenging medical issues.
The Coaching For Inner Strength Program is a new effort that focuses on boosting resiliency, reducing stress, and helping members enjoy a better quality of life in the face of an illness. By giving members the tools and support they need to better manage the stress that being sick can cause, we encourage them to stay as healthy as possible.
How Does the Program Work?
Participants in the Coaching For Inner Strength Program will receive personalized coaching by phone based on cognitive behavioral principles from a specially trained Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts nurse-coach. In a dozen calls over a six-week period, the nurse-coach and the member will:
The Coaching For Inner Strength Program is a unique service of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, offered in careful coordination with other Blue Cross care management services members may already be receiving.
How Are Participants Selected?
We review three years of claims data to identify members with a history of specific conditions that coincide with their illness and indicate that stress may be a significant issue during their treatment. Eligible members will be contacted by mail, and a nurse-coach will then call these members to explain the program and its benefits, and to see if the member would like to participate.
