A PCP is Your Key to Good Health and Proper Coverage
Your primary care provider (PCP) is the most important member of your health care team. He or she is your first line of defense in getting and staying well. With a comprehensive understanding of your conditions and medical history, your PCP will be your partner in everyday preventive care, as well as the coordinator of any specialized care you may need. Your PCP collaborates with specialists to make referrals, help determine a diagnosis, and create a treatment plan. By fostering good communication and coordination among all the providers involved in your care, your PCP is able to look at the bigger picture of your overall health and ensure that you get the correct diagnosis and treatment.

Please note that some of our plans require a PCP designation for services to be covered and paid.

While not all of our plans require that you choose a primary care provider, many do. Each covered family member in one of our HMO Blue, HMO Blue New England, Access Blue New England, Blue Choice, and Blue Choice New England health plans needs to have a PCP designated from our network's providers. Under the Access Blue health plan, you are not required to select a PCP but we encourage you to do so. Having a PCP is a great way to make the most of your Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts coverage.

Want to review, update, or make a PCP designation? It's easy. Just create an account or log in to Member Central and click on Change My Primary Care Provider.
