What is a PCP?
A PCP is a primary care provider. He or she can be a doctor or nurse practitioner; usually someone trained in family or general practice, internal medicine, or pediatrics. Generally, a PCP is the first health care professional you see when you need a physical examination or other routine medical services. Then, if necessary, your PCP will refer you to specialists, hospitals, and other providers.

Our HMO Blue®, HMO Blue New EnglandSM, Access BlueSM New England, Blue Choice®, and Blue Choice New EnglandSM health plans require a PCP designation for services to be covered and paid. With these plans, each covered family member needs to have a PCP from a network provider.

Want to review, update, or make a PCP designation? It's easy. Just create an account or log in to Member Central and click on Change My Primary Care Provider.
