All Massachusetts hospitals are required to have Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFACs). PFACs bring together current and former patients and family members to work with the hospital on improving quality of care and experiences for patients and families. Members of the PFACs bring an important perspective to the work of the hospital, which has helped many hospitals make important improvements.
In August 2008, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick signed into law a quality improvement and cost containment bill that requires all hospitals in the Commonwealth to establish PFACs by October 2010. You can contact any hospital in Massachusetts and ask for a copy of its PFAC plan.
